fevers and coughing and teeth, OH MY!

We have had quite the week here. I've never changed so many poopy diapers....EVER! On Monday alone I changed 12 poopy diapers. YUK! Logan has had this flu-ish type virus. He has mild fevers and horrible poopy diapers. And did I mention the painful diaper rash? Yes. Poor guy. He is on the mend after a strange feverish day yesterday. He had a fever and this dry cough. And today? Nothing. He's fine. If only he could talk and tell me what has been going on inside his little body.

Well, one thing that has been going on is he is starting to sprout a tooth! It has not broken through yet, but this could be another reason for the excessive pooping and horrible diaper rash. Even though pediatricians say that teething causes no "symptoms," moms know their kids. And after going through this 40 times before (20 teeth for Lauren and 20 teeth for Josh), I feel confident that I can recognize the craziness of teething! But, of course, I've been tricked before!!

Lauren's weekend!

Lauren has had a fabulous weekend. On Friday, she played outside with her friends from about 10am until bedtime!! I was so unbelievably proud of her. Every time she wanted to go to a different yard or into someone's house, she came in and asked me. She made sure that I could see her from the windows the whole day. Well, except once. Her and her neighborhood friend were chasing butterflies and wandered behind our neighbors house and down the block a little - those darn butterflies! Her and some neighbor friends were running around in their swimsuits, Brian filled the small pool and they all had a pool party (to which I attended and read my People magazine while the boys slept!)

It was so amazing to be able to trust her outside by herself for short periods of time. I was running to the windows to check on her and her friends quite often, but they solved their own fights (as far as I know!) and just had so much fun!! I did feel better about having Dixie outside when the kids were in the backyard - knowing that Dixie would bark at anyone walking by made me feel like I had an extra set of eyes out there!

On Saturday she attended a birthday party and had so much fun! She's growing up into such a wonderful and caring girl. She has her moments, of course, but I'm so proud of her. Her "fierce independence" as we lovingly call it is becoming more of a positive instead of so negative and that makes us all feel good! I could tell after her wonderful couple of days with her friends, she was very proud of herself in her behavior and proud because I trusted her. It made us both feel very good!

butt paste...

My poor sweet Logan has the worst diaper rash. And he is not happy about it at all. He is to the point of being inconsolable, which is especially hard because he is such an easy-going baby. He is sleeping at the moment. Lauren and Josh both got HORRIBLE diaper rashes when they were teething. Logan has been drooling a lot the last week, so I'm guessing teeth are just around the corner. I feel so bad for him! He also has some intestinal issues going on, which makes it even harder. It's almost like toxic poo...... : ( Poor guy!

Enchanted....

I came down with strep throat and a sinus infection on Monday and Grandma Marcia came up to save the day! She took care of the kids while I laid on the couch feeling miserable. I had DVR'd the movie "Enchanted" when we had a free movie weekend, so I thought it would be a good time to watch it. It was a really cute movie! For those of you who don't know what it is, it starts out as a cartoon and it's about a princess named Giselle who is thrown into a well by the evil witch. On the other side of the well is reality. So Giselle winds up in Times Square, confused and searching for her castle. She ends up meeting Patrick Dempsey and falls in love with him (because really, who doesn't love Ronny Miller from Can't Buy Me Love).

There is this part in the movie where Giselle attempts to clean up Patrick Dempsey's apartment because it is so messy. She sings her princess song, whistles and all the birds, mice, rats and cockroaches of NYC come scurrying to help her. I know, disgusting. But this one bird lands on Giselle's finger and then she sings a beautiful song. This morning Lauren, Josh and I were in the backyard by the swingset and there were a few birds in the trees nearby. Lauren looks at me with her finger pointing and says, "Mommy, can you sing me a whistle and then the birdie will come land on my finger?" It was so sweet! So, of course I whistled and nothing happened. She said, "Try again, mommy, I don't think the birdie heard you." So, we tried a few more times and then decided that only special birdies come land on princesses fingers and those special birdies were not in our backyard at the moment.

Logan is six months old!

That's right! He's one-half year old! The last six months have gone by so incredibly fast, but at the same time it feels like forever ago that we brought him home. Here are his stats: 21 pounds, 30 inches long. He is a long boy! He's trying to roll over, but has only done it once (probably a fluke). He's just a chunky monkey boy, so he'll get there eventually. We're used to the babies with the extremely graduated large motor development! He's just the happiest baby, which we love! He does need to get better at the sleeping thing. He's doing a lot better than he was, but I think that we all just need some sleep. : )

no peas....camera, yes!

funny things....

Lauren: She informed me yesterday morning that her "glass slipper" (princess high heel) was broken and daddy couldn't fix it. Then she said, "I guess I'll have to take it to Grandma's. She has the special princess glue." ?? Really, mom? Special princess glue?!

Joshua: He loves daddy's truck. Today I was cleaning out the garage and Josh was very upset because he couldn't follow Lauren to the neighbor's house. In full melt-down mode, he walked over to Brian's truck, touched the back door (where his carseat is) and chanted "truck, truck, truck." I put him inside the truck, and he just sat in his carseat for about a half hour! Didn't do anything, just sat there. Silly boy! I'll have to remember that for the next time he's throwing a fit!

Logan: Sweet Logan has been sleeping through the night the majority of the last week. There have been a few bumps, but he's doing really good. He's now a full-fledged cereal (and fruit) eating machine - LOVES it! We'll have to think about tackling vegetables coming up in the next couple of weeks....

On a side note, I love my backyard and living on the edge of town! Last Friday during lunchtime the kids and I saw six deer in our yard! They were standing out by our swingset waiting to cross the road. Lauren saw them first and yelled out, "Hey, there's something going on at the swingset!" There sure was! The deer all scampered off into the woods on the other side of the road. Today, we saw five more deer come directly through our backyard. Dixie saw them this time and was not too happy about them being in her yard!
